It was 11am in the morning somewhere in 2017. The curtains were drawn and in the mild gloom I was lying where I found myself all too often those days – on my bed. I had so much to do and it hung heavy over me, especially the knowledge that, in an hour, I would need to fetch my children from school and try my best to just manage real life, let alone be that sparkling, connected, joyful mother I’d once envisioned I’d be.
Heaviest of all was the feeling that it wasn’t getting better. The deep fear that this is it and I was wasting and failing my life at the same time.
In this place of brooding my analytical brain once again turned to fixing instead of allowing what was. This was how I always escaped what was uncomfortable. I tried to rise above it through thinking my way out, fixing it, controlling it. Sometimes it worked but often not for long. After all, that amount of mental activity was very depleting in itself.
I felt that immense overwhelming fatigue that made everything just feel too much and so I did what I seldom allowed myself to do those days – I surrendered into it. I let go and gave up.
And that was what I’d needed. In that giving up. In that throwing up of my arms in what felt like defeat but was actually surrender my healing journey back to vitality and wholeness began….
It was then that I had the epiphany that I’d never felt safe and had never felt enough. I’d never been able to just trust life and trust that if I let go I would be OK. At that point I didn’t have the knowledge I have now about how this is deeply tied into my nervous system health and overall wellbeing. All I knew was that the answer wasn’t something out THERE. It had to do with my own inner sense of worth and safety which would bring physical balance and open me up to receiving the change I desired.
I should’ve known this way earlier. Yet, even as a psychologist and BodyTalk practitioner, I was looking for someone to rescue me. Ultimately, I had to rescue myself. That decision was the turning point that shifted my identity, my perception of the world, my nervous system and my health. It’s an ongoing journey, but it has been the most profound gift.
That gift came with a calling: to guide other women who felt just as burnt out and despondent as I had back to their own inner truth. For almost 8 years, I’ve helped women find their own answers. Now, I’ve created a safe and sacred in-person retreat offering for you to do the same. Imagine what it would feel like to finally embody the change you wish to see in yourself, while deeply connected to the earth and nurtured by nature. Best of all, when you heal, that healing ripples out into the world through you.
If you’re a burnt out, stuck, lost and/or disconnected woman but also a changemaker with a deep calling (remember this change can be in your own home and family) and you’re needing answers come and join me for the Rooted Retreat. The Early Bird special is available until 10th Jan 2026

A Deeply Unacknowledged Cause of Burnout
Today in South Africa we remember a very important event and in this reel I created I share why this is relevant to a deeply unacknowledged cause of chronic fatigue and burnout. In the reel I share why this foundation is so important to overcome chronic fatigue and burnout. I explain how it is experienced on 3
