Many clients I work with are deeply driven to make a difference in the world, yet find themselves stuck in chronic fatigue, overwhelm and burnout, feeling frustrated by a body and mind that no longer seem to cooperate. When I was in that place I did what I always did– I put in more effort to fix it. I researched and got into action in an attempt to fix and control my health. What I’ve come to understand, both personally and professionally, is that changing habits or learning better strategies is only a very small part of healing from chronic fatigue, burnout or chronic overwhelm. Rather, transformation requires a shift in identity. And usually that identity is one that has been attached to doing, fixing, and controlling with a good, strong dose of perfectionism. Can you relate? In the last few years I’ve been learning a lot about manifesting abundance and working with quantum energy. Essentially, when you embody the abundance as if it’s already here your current reality begins to change to reflect that. And it works (I manifested a trip to Antarctica and a home on the land we longed to live on!) To manifest something, we begin to think, feel and act as the version of ourselves for whom it has already happened. From that place, changes become possible because our beliefs, emotions and nervous system are no longer working against us. You might think this is crazy but please stick with me….. When we’re in chronic fatigue or burnout, our identity is often shaped around not feeling safe, not feeling worthy, and being stuck in self-preservation (and for most people this is unconscious and unquestioned). We think, act, feel and believe as if something is wrong, as if we can’t rest, can’t trust, and can’t let go. This identity is deeply tied to nervous system dysregulation. When the body perceives ongoing threat, the immune system and nervous system respond as if that’s the reality and can become stuck in autonomic nervous system survival states, including Cell Danger Response (where your mitochondria switch from producing energy to signalling danger for self-preservation). What I discovered on my own healing journey was that I had been stuck for the longest time in an identity bound in vigilance, fixing and fear, believing that something bad would happen unless I was constantly in control and prepared, while believing I had to manage this all on my own. My healing happened when I shifted to an identity grounded in trust and a very different way of perceiving life, myself and others - Trusting that no matter what happens, I will be okay. Trusting that life can hold me. Trusting that even challenges carry the possibility of meaning and transformation. As identity shifts our belief systems shift, our actions soften and become more aligned to who we truly are meant to be when we’re thriving and the nervous system begins to feel safe enough to move out of survival and into repair. Health follows and energy returns. This is why the foundation of my coaching work is centred on two things: understanding the identity you’re currently living from, and learning how to genuinely feel safe and signal safety to your body so you can shift your identity and embody health and vitality. The gift is not only improved health, clarity and confidence, but a fuller embodiment of your truth and potential. I do this work because I’ve seen what happens when clients step into this way of being. The ripple effect touches their families, their work and the wider world in ways that matter deeply.
